Local Business Spotlight: Jersey Girl Kitchen & Market
A few weeks back we had the chance to interview Kristin Brown, owner of the popular Jersey Girl Grill in Long Beach. Kristin recently opened a second Jersey Girl location at the old Foster’s building in Beach Haven.
We asked her a few questions about the new space, how she got her start on the island, and what some of her favorite menu items are. Check out the full interview below…
Kristin, thanks for taking time to meet with us. Tell us a bit about your background. Have you worked in the restaurant industry before starting the original Jersey Girl Grill?
My first job was actually with Sink R Swim when I was 14 years old, so my life has sort of come full circle when we opened the original Jersey Girl Grill in the Sink R Swim plaza. I ran a small cafe out of an ice rink before opening Jersey Girl Grill. We opened the year after Honey Bubbles closed as a void was left in the area. I grew up going to Honey Bubbles with my friends and I knew the neighborhood would really miss a local place to walk to. Out of that, Jersey Girl was born and this is now our 17th summer!
Tell us a bit about the new restaurant and market. Will the restaurant be dine-in, take-out, etc.?
We are so excited about the new restaurant! It will be a lot like the Foster’s of old but with an updated feel. We are dine-in and take-out. We’ve also updated inside and out with a new patio and dinning area.
And there’s a market aspect. We have easy grab fruits & vegetables, snacks, smoothies, shaken iced teas, side salads, and quick-grab meals. We’re excited to partner with local vendors to provide sourdough breads and all types of pastries! We’re also trying to recreate the old, famous red-skin potato salad that Foster’s used to sell.
What type of food do you plan on serving?
Our menu will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We will be bringing our Jersey Girl Grill breakfast menu to Beach Haven, with a few tweaks and additions (like breakfast pizzas on regular or gluten free crusts). Our lunch menu will consist of specialty sandwiches featuring Boar’s Head meats & cheeses, salads, and tacos. Dinners will have a more refined feel.
We’ve been working with our chefs all winter on just the right menu for dinner and I think we nailed it! We’re excited for the causal, laid-back feel our patio will give while still being able to get a fantastic meal.
What made you decide to open this location in Beach Haven?
We have always loved the Foster’s building. And this year when we had a chance to save it from being torn down, we took it!
If you had to pick your favorite menu item/s, what would it be?
I love our breakfast burrito and the pulled pork tacos! One of my partners loves the clam chowder and the crab-cake platter. And the other loves the egg-white veggie omelette.
What days and times will you be open?
We are now open 7 days a week, from 7am to 9pm. You can find us at the old Foster’s building which is located at 400 N Bay Ave in Beach Haven.
